Bright, Fun, Unique Statement Pieces

email

I’m happy on this first day of September to share with you one my most favorite people. Her eclectic perspective on everything shines through her work, and it’s always a pleasure for me to see the latest creation her mind has churned up. Congratulations on opening your Etsy store, your upcoming wedding and all the great things to come (make sure you fit a dance party in here and there)!

Random Facts About You?

I am practically an obsessive planner by nature, but do not plan my artwork at all other than the initial color scheme. I find the results are better if you let it build naturally rather than follow a rigid pattern.

I am a runner first and then an artist. I need to run to keep my mind and body together, and I need arts and crafts to glue my soul to my mind and body.

I am a health freak, when I am not at the track/gym/craft table... I am playing mad scientist in the kitchen.

I'm sarcastic and funny, I think it shows through in my artwork.

What got you started crafting?

Well I've got artists in my family and I can't ignore the blood-line drive to craft. Since I was young I had influences from: A quilter, a graphic artist/painter/crafter, an architect/engineer/photographer. I really got into creating everything and anything during highschool, carried that through my college years at art school, and it's still with me today.- So, I let it win.

What is your source of inspiration?

I find inspiration in random places and I feel like I am never looking for it, it just sort of finds me. In general I form ideas from life. But if I had to narrow it down I'd have to say I find inspiration from 3 main places: nature (the shore, woods, animals), people/personalities (I often draw graphics and cartoons based off of specific people), and bright color (I always chose one or two bright colors and work from there to add contrasts and details to create a finished piece).

What have you made recently?

My most recent work-in-progress happens to be handmade polymer clay bead necklaces for my bridesmaids to wear at my wedding in May, 2011. This is so exciting for me, but since it's a surprise I cannot share pictures, sorry!

Where do you sell your crafts presently?

I have an online store at Etsy. Right now there is polymer clay work featured, but this is not all I do. I also sew and craft in other materials, and will add more to the store as I create it!

Why are handmade crafts important to you?

I am sick of seeing the same old stuff in the stores. I am one of those gals that will walk around the store going; "I could make that".... "I could make a cooler one of those". Also, I like a face to go with my purchases. I feel like a tee shirt or a necklace or even a sock is more special if you know the person who made it.
