Eco-friendly, Inspired by Nature

I have just been making a hat in the style of a hood using a chunky marbled acrylic. I wanted to make something different to the hats I had been making. I start off with the idea, allow it to stew in my mind for a few days until I more or less have a plan for making it. The first one of any style takes the longest as i am working it out as I go along. I only pulled this one out once and started again. I think the yarn alone makes it stand out and the style is something different to the norm.

I’m inspired by both nature and raw materials. Where I live in the woods, I am surrounded by nature. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets, the call of birds, the silence of sunshine and flowers blooming. And I am a HUGE craft supply junkie, so just staring into the swatches of yarn or a bag of embroidery floss, I’ll suddenly see the orange of the Butterfly Weed in the garden, or a mint green like the moss on our stone walls, and I’ll immediately feel invigorated with creative energy.

Hope you enjoy my critters as much as I enjoyed making them!
I love the slight imperfection that comes with handmade goods. They feel much more alive than machine-generated massproducts and I like to think that the intention of thought, attention to detail and most of all love that goes into handmade creations will also resonate with the new owner.

My youngest has a behavior disorder which has required me to quit my childcare business, and I had to find a source of income. I turned to my knitting and crafting as a way not only to help support us, but to allow me the time to spend with my kids. I started out knitting with thrift store yarn and yarn from deconstructed sweaters. Anything I could get ahold of really! I call my biz Poor Girl Couture for a reason, as I started it from scratch withthrift store supplies and alot of books. This business has really grown over the past year, and I couldn’t be more thankful for the support of my fiance and my family.

They are usually made by people who care about craftsmanship. Craftsmanship is a word that means very little to most these days. Houses go up in weeks as well as buildings and there usually isn’t anything to give it “character”. Handmade items are different. The crafter takes the time to make it as beautifully as possible because they have to put their stamp on it personally.
