A true Pisces, I’m inspired by my environment. It’s s good thing I live in such a beautiful rural area! Wild violets populate the front yard, wild blackberries spring up along the driveway, and I get so excited when I see new young tree seedlings pop up.

Anyone can buy a machine made strand of beads- but where is the personal touch? Where is the customer service? The special care and attention to detail? I enjoy creating because I know that every thing that I make is going to be made with all of the above as well as a genuine thoughtfulness for the customers I am creating for.

Fun Colorful Charming Bright Elegant

One day I decided Id like to throw a dinner party for some of my friends and thought it would be nice to have a new set of napkin rings to go with my newly purchased red cups. I stopped by a bead store and bought some red and green beads and some wires, and a few hours later, I’d made 8 very pretty spiral napkin rings! I fell in love with beads and turning them into pretty and useful items around the house.

It’s Never Too Late

It’s Never Too Late

I’ve been married for 35 years to a wonderful man who supports all my crazy crafting habits. We have two sons, who we have raised to know that mom has things she loves to do, too. We literally have fabric and crafting items in almost every room in our house, including a guest bathroom that we never use. We used to live in Virginia, right outside Washington, D.C., where I would sit in traffic for hours on end each week thinking about all the crafting that I could be doing instead of sitting in traffic, so we left the rat race there and moved to Upstate NY where we now own a 30-acre farm, with a 150-year old farmhouse, and we have 12 acres of Concord Grapes, and I have lots more time to craft every day! I didn’t start selling my craft until three years ago. Did I mention I’m almost 60 years old? So it’s never too late to take your hobby or something you love to do and turn it into a business. Many people tell me, “But I wouldn’t want to start a business doing something that I like to do to relax.” I tell them, “But I wouldn’t want to start a business in something that I didn’t love to do.”

When you by handmade, you are supporting a living breathing individual and their ambitions. Being a consumer myself, I find it to be a very fulfilling way to shop. Our money has a voice, and what we purchase with that money has influence. I would much rather spend my hard earned cash on one of a kind hand made goodies. The quality is higher, plus it’s wonderful to know there will never be another piece exactly exactly alike.

Thanks Tina for taking me (even if only briefly as I prepared your feature) onto the shores of the Outer Banks, where my family has spent the last 20+ years on our annual summer vacation. Each piece reminded me different portions of our adventures, especially the vintage Cape Hatteras sign in your Etsy store!
