I’m inspired by people’s moods, whether they feel silly, sad, happy, or angry. I look for our unique flaws and idiosyncrises that make us special and different from everyone else.

Every so often I see a response in the “Odds and Ends” section of the featured crafter profile that catches my attention.

After reading through Joelle’s well written, thoughtful profile application I get to the “Odds and Ends” portion and see, “I hate answering questions like these.” I’m all ears if you have some suggestions on how I can improve the questions and/or crafter profile creation process :) Thanks for putting your hatred aside and contributing to Heart Handmade Blog!

Repurposed Childrens Toys

I love owning items that I know someone has poured their heart and time into. I find them a lot more personal and appealing than mass produced items.

Whimsical Sweet Quirky Characters

I recently saw The Fantastic Mr. Fox and it was the starting point for several pieces. Of course, I had to make some cute foxes. I also made a rabbit wearing a dress that is similar to one of the lesser characters in the film. The aesthetic of that film is just about what I am going for with my art.

One-of-a-Kind Amigurumi Dolls

I get inspired by colour combinations, by things that happen during the day, by things I read in books. I am part of the Etsy Plush Team and that also helps with inspiration – we have team challenges and seeing other people’s amazing work always inspires me to work harder and try something new.

Made with Love from Warsaw

I have always been “against” mass production. It was easy in communist times to be “against”. There was nothing in shops so we made our own clothes, we dyed them. I even made shoes for myself. Everything was gray, so once a person was wearing colourful cloth – that one was automatically “against”.

Than the capitalists came. Everybody could buy everything. But it’s so boring! I spent almost 20 years in advertising as a creative writer and consultant, but I was missing something. When my kids were born I started to smell what I was missing. It was the “against” part of me. The roots of myself. So here I am – knitting, crocheting and getting ready to start making my own soap and lip balms! I love those moments when I make my stuff, kids are playing around, we have time to talk, to be together!

I’m very much in nesting-mode and I just love the idea of adding a personal touch to my own home. Besides I consider my crafty playground as a wonderful place of quiet & relaxation.

Today’s featured crafter, Heather Muise, is definitely on the same page as us. We share her disdain for “battery operated plastic junk”, and wholeheartedly agree that no meal could ever possibly contain too much sushi. Anyone with the vision to crochet two-headed, siamese twin cats is someone we’re happy to share the earth with :)
