4. The web-cam on my laptop creeps me out-I feel certain someone is watching me through it so I put a post-it note over it.

What got you started crafting?

When I was a teenager I got it into my head that I wanted one of those beaded curtains they used to put in doorways but I wanted one that went all the way around my bed...I couldn't find one in the stores (oddly enough) so I started making one myself. From then on every time I saw a piece of jewelry I couldn't afford-or wanted a piece of jewelry that I couldn't find I would make it.

What is your source of inspiration?

Everyone. When I'm out in public I'm always looking to see what jewelry people are wearing-I do the same thing when I'm watching a television show or a movie-I may not be able to tell you what the story line was but I can tell you what jewelry the actresses were wearing.

What have you made recently?

I recently made a pair of teardrop cluster earrings that I 'named' Glisten and that's exactly what they do. The teardrops are this gorgeous, soft aqua blue chalcedony and I crowned them with a ton of bright orange carnelian rondelles-so much sterling silver and so many gemstones went into these earrings that I feel like they're a wonderful little extravagance.

Where do you sell your crafts presently?

The larger part of my sales are to friends or people I meet who like a piece of jewelry I'm wearing-I once had a woman buy a necklace right off my neck (it was shocking). I also have a shop on Etsy and a few local shops that carry my jewelry.

Why are handmade crafts important to you?

I buy handmade whenever I can-I love the idea that my hard earned money is going to support a family business or small business owner where it can actually make a difference rather than an enormous corporation who doesn't really need or care about my business. I personally care a great deal what my customers think/want and it's been my experience that the vast majority of small business owners feel exactly the same way.
