Handmade Felt Lovelies

email

I started selling to family and friends a few years ago, then I moved onto craft fairs and now finally I have opened a shop on Folksy. I hope to set up my own website, my other half is a web developer so he will come in handy!

Random Facts About You?

My shoulder has featured in a film after I was an extra, in the finished scene they cut 3/4 of me out of the frame.

I love anything that tastes or smells like vanilla.

I am a big fan of Disney films.

My favourite month of the year is December.

What got you started crafting?

I have always loved designing and making things from a very young age. I always seem to start making a range of products because I have made the same item for myself. I get so tired of the same old designs and trends that you see in high street shops, so I like to make unique items that make great gifts or would brighten up a home. Felt is my favourite material and I love making anything I can from it. If I could build a house of felt, I think I would!

What is your source of inspiration?

This may sound really vague but literally anything could be my inspiration. Sometimes it is the weather, if it's sunny I will use bright colours and if it's a bit dark outside I will tone the colours down a little. It could be a song or a painting, a film or even just browsing round a craft shop.

I love picturing and dreaming up different materials and colour combinations, and then seeing the final piece once I have finished making it.

What have you made recently?

I recently designed and made an owl felt kindle case. I have always had a love for owls and it seems that recently, more and more people do, which is great!

My other halves nan was recently given a kindle for her birthday and I thought I would make her a case to protect it.

The design was a bit different from the one in my Folksy shop, but I did want to come up with a design to sell to the public.

I absolutely love floral fabrics which often feature in my items, so had to incorporate this into the case as well.

Where do you sell your crafts presently?

I started selling to family and friends a few years ago, then I moved onto craft fairs and now finally I have opened a shop on Folksy. I hope to set up my own website, my other half is a web developer so he will come in handy! I just need to make the funds for the hosting.

Why are handmade crafts important to you?

There are so many reasons on why I truly believe that hand made is far better that factory made.

When somebody spends hours designing and working on an item, trying out different ideas and putting love and care into the piece, how could you not want to support them?

When Christmas and Birthdays come around, all I want to do is buy from sellers who are either starting out a business, or continuing to work so hard coming up with new ideas and products they have made and designed themselves.

By buying something hand made, you feel like you are getting something from the heart, and you can guarantee the quality will be far better than if made by machine.

Oh and most of all, handmade items are unique, so you will probably never see anyone else with one the same as yours.

I don’t know how old I am. Well I do sort of, but when I’m asked I have to work it out from my date of birth as its not a number that’s kept to hand in my head.

My biggest accomplishment is getting a few regular customers who always return to my shop when they need some gifts for friends. It is so nice to have them trust me and order something new from me too! Happy customers make me happy.

I like to draw and photograph birds, I study their feathers in order to dye domestic feathers to mimic them. I like everything about birds except … actual birds. Any bird bigger than a sparrow scares the hell out of me!
