A Heart Handmade Holiday Featurette
What is your favorite holiday tradition?
Driving to the seaside with my family.
How is your holiday crafting different than “regular” crafts you do?
To me there is not much difference between year round and holiday work. All of my items including my ornaments are for year round enjoyment. I just sell more at the holidays.
Share a bit about one of your holiday pieces:
Only about a few weeks ago I designed and made my copper house ornaments. I’d had them in my head for some time. You can get them personalized with your name or street name, your house number or the year. I think that a house with a heart poking out the door evokes the holiday spirit so much!

I have a lifelong aversion to raisins, I think they're evil.
I often solve problems or get ideas in the middle of the night when I'm asleep.
One summer when I was a teen, I embroidered a calendar for the following year in its entirety on the back of a denim shirt.
Even though I did go to art school, I am self taught in everything I now do.
What got you started crafting?
I have been an artist all of my life. I don't remember a time when I wasn't. I pretty much always have a plan for making several things in my head at once. For years I worked as a graphic designer, setting type, designing logos and such. I used to make and sell papier-mache pieces & handmade greeting cards before I started with metals.
What is your source of inspiration?
Basically everything I see, everything that's around me everywhere everyday.
What have you made recently?
Still hot from my torch are my cat ornaments. They were a lot of fun to design. I took a quick look around the web at cat folk art and came up with the design. They are my most labor intensive ornaments, but I think well worth it!
Where do you sell your crafts presently?
I sell my copper work mostly on Etsy. But they also are in stores such as The Society of Arts & Crafts in Boston and Craft Company #6 in Rochester, NY.
Making it is easy, selling it is the hard part.
Why are handmade crafts important to you?
...because there isn't any OTHER way!
