Today’s featured crafter’s favorite words are: monkey, biscuit, and cattywampus. That’s all 😉
Erin Michael
My favorite words are monkey, biscuit, and cattywampus.
I'd love to live in a pimped-out treehouse.
Thunderstorms put me to sleep in no time flat.
I go see live performances of the "Phantom of the Opera" every single chance I get.
What got you started crafting?
Ever since I can remember, I've had an overactive brain that got bored easily. I didn't have any brothers or sisters to pester, so I was always doing puzzles or building things with Legos or crafting. I'm a teensy (or maybe more than teensy) ADD, and I would learn something long enough to see that I could do it, then I moved on--cross stitch, crocheting, rug latch, sewing, origami, stamping... When I started playing with metal, I knew it was love when I stuck with it longer than 5 minutes.
What is your source of inspiration?
I get inspiration from everywhere--nature, comic books, music, architecture... My best epiphanies have come while in the shower or during those few minutes lying in bed *right* before falling asleep.
What have you made recently?
Recently, I finished a brooch called "Seize the Daisy!" It was the first large brooch I attempted and was completely handcrafted--I even rolled the silver sheet. It took FOR-EVER, but I wanted to challenge myself and I was excited after every step to see it look more like something recognizable.
Where do you sell your crafts presently?
I do big art & craft fairs every once in a while, but mostly I do home jewelry parties and have my online shop. I like the smaller format much better to be able to get to know people and what they'd really like. Working with someone to create a special custom piece that they'll treasure and hand down--that's *the ultimate* experience.
On my Facebook page I'll post promo deals when I get a wild hair.
Why are handmade crafts important to you?
I want to surround myself with things that have the personality of their makers, and I don't want typical stuff everyone else has.
