I encourage all my readers to buy local, buy handmade, and keep everything close to the source. It really is a small world, but the retail industry is massive. I think it’s important to keep things in perspective and not lose sight of where our goods are coming from, so I try to get them straight from the hands that made them.

1. I once bought a one-way ticket to Guatemala and backpacked my way through nine countries in three months. I ran out of money in Argentina.
2. I'm pretty tall (5'10").
3. I once ran over a fire hydrant. Literally. On foot.
4. My cat's name is Mish. It means "cat" in Sutujil, a Guatemalan dialect. It's pronounced "Meesh."
What got you started crafting?
I can't sit still for more than 14 seconds consecutively, so I'm constantly looking for new projects. I tend to project-hop, but jewelry has really stuck. I grew up in a really creative home, and I've tried to hang onto that, even through what seems like a million years of grad school and internships...!
What is your source of inspiration?
I'm inspired by so many things - days gone by, plants, animals, textiles - you name it. I love the different emotions that you can invoke in a person by pairing different colors. I love the way that you can find patterns in unexpected places if you just keep your eyes open. I love how anything at all can become inspiration if you keep an open mind.
What have you made recently?
One of my favorite new pieces is a necklace called "earthy." I hung a brass feather and a massive turquoise nugget on a big brass ring and then strung it all onto a long vintage brass chain. I love the bohemian look of the piece and the way it reflects nature while still keeping the vintage vibe that I try to stick to. Much of my recent work has been inspired by nature, but this is definitely my favorite piece. It's bold but wearable.
Where do you sell your crafts presently?
I sell on Etsy, but I'm looking to branch out and get into a few shows and boutiques this year. I think it's a lot easier to fall in love with something when you can hold it in your hands.
Why are handmade crafts important to you?
On my blog I encourage all my readers to buy local, buy handmade, and keep everything close to the source. It really is a small world, but the retail industry is massive. I think it's important to keep things in perspective and not lose sight of where our goods are coming from, so I try to get them straight from the hands that made them.
